The Bamboo Society

Membership, Guest & Club Policies

Effective Date: September 1, 2026
Location: 506 Rutledge St., Camden, SC 29020
Owner/Operator: The Bamboo Society LLC

The Bamboo Society is a private, for-profit membership club for social connection, mahjong play, classes, events, and related activities. By joining, paying dues, bringing a guest, or using the club, members agree to these policies.

Section 1: Membership, Guest & Club Policies

Membership & Payment

Membership is a revocable privilege and does not create ownership, voting rights, or an investment interest in the club. Membership levels, pricing, benefits, availability, and rules may change with notice.

Dues are billed in advance and automatically charged to the payment method on file unless otherwise stated. Members are responsible for approved dues, event fees, and other charges. Failed payments may result in suspended access until the account is current.

Members & Guests

Membership benefits and reservations are non-transferable unless approved in writing. Guests are permitted only under current club guest rules, and the sponsoring member is responsible for their conduct, damage, and compliance with club policies.

The club may limit guest visits, charge guest fees, or deny entry at its discretion.

Conduct & Mahjong Etiquette

Everyone at The Bamboo Society must be respectful, courteous, and safe. Harassment, discrimination, threats, fighting, bullying, theft, vandalism, disruptive conduct, excessive arguing, cheating, or intentional disruption of play is prohibited.

Members and guests must follow reasonable staff and management instructions, treat club property with care, and respect the privacy of others.

Alcohol Service

The Bamboo Society may serve beer and wine in accordance with South Carolina law and its permit requirements. Alcohol may be served only by authorized staff to guests age 21 or older; valid photo ID may be required at any time.

No outside alcohol is permitted unless expressly approved in writing and allowed by law. The club may refuse service to anyone who appears intoxicated, impaired, underage, disorderly, or unable to consume alcohol responsibly. Drinking games, alcohol-related wagering, and alcohol tied to game outcomes are prohibited.

Beer and wine are intended for on-site consumption unless the club offers a lawful take-home option. Alcohol-related incidents, refusals of service, or safety concerns may be documented and reported to management.

Food, Games & Prizes

The club may offer snacks, catered food, or approved food service at its discretion. Outside food vendors and caterers must receive prior approval and comply with applicable requirements.

Mahjong is for social and recreational purposes only. Gambling, wagering, house rake, and cash prizes based on game results are not allowed. Club promotions, drawings, gifts, and prizes are subject to club approval and applicable law.

Safety, Privacy & Photography

Members and guests participate at their own risk and should promptly report safety concerns to staff. The club is not responsible for injury, loss, or damage.

The club may collect member, payment, attendance, and guest information for business, safety, and compliance purposes. The club may photograph or record events for club records and marketing unless an individual opts out in writing where permitted.

Enforcement & Policy Changes

The Bamboo Society may warn, refuse service, remove a person, limit access, suspend privileges, terminate membership, or revoke guest access for nonpayment, policy violations, unlawful conduct, unsafe behavior, or conduct harmful to the club or its members.

The club may revise these policies as needed for operations, safety, insurance, permit requirements, or legal compliance. Continued membership or use of the club after notice of an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policies.

Section 2: Prize and Giveaway Policy

Effective Date: September 1, 2026
Applies To: Members, guests, staff, and event participants

The Bamboo Society may offer occasional giveaways, door prizes, and appreciation gifts as a courtesy to members and guests. These promotions are intended to build community and enjoyment, not to create gambling, wagering, or a paid-entry prize structure.

1. General Rule

The Bamboo Society does not award cash prizes, gift cards, or other items of value based on the outcome of mahjong play, tournament scores, or any gambling-related activity. Prizes may only be offered in a manner approved by management and consistent with applicable South Carolina law.

2. No Pay-to-Enter Drawings

No giveaway, sweepstakes, or prize drawing may require a purchase, membership payment, play fee, alcohol purchase, or other monetary obligation as a condition of entry unless management has specifically confirmed that the promotion is lawful and fully disclosed. A free entry method is preferred for any chance-based promotion.

3. Allowed Prize Types

The Bamboo Society may offer modest promotional items, such as: club-branded merchandise, candles, accessories, or home goods, small gift baskets, free class seats or similar club perks, and random member appreciation gifts.

4. Prohibited Prize Types

The following are not allowed without prior written approval and legal review: cash prizes, gift cards, jackpot pools, high-value merchandise tied to game results, prizes funded directly by player fees, and alcohol-related prize incentives.

5. No Game-Outcome Prizes

Mahjong play at The Bamboo Society is social and recreational only. Winners of mahjong games, leagues, or tournaments may receive recognition, but may not receive money, gift cards, or other items of value simply for winning unless the promotion is separately reviewed and approved.

6. Random Drawings

Random drawings may be used for member appreciation events, social media promotions, or club giveaways if: the rules are clearly stated in advance, the prize is described in writing, eligibility is defined, winner selection is random or otherwise lawful, and the giveaway is not misleading or deceptive.

7. Written Rules

Each giveaway or promotion must have written rules that explain: who can enter, how to enter, whether a free entry method exists, the prize, how the winner is selected, when the winner will be announced, and how the prize will be delivered.

8. Member-Only Appreciation Gifts

The Bamboo Society may give members exclusive appreciation gifts or perks as part of membership benefits. These are not considered contest prizes and do not create a game or lottery structure when they are offered as ordinary club benefits.

9. Compliance Override

If a promotion might be viewed as a contest, sweepstakes, raffle, lottery, or gambling-related event, it must be reviewed before launch. Management may cancel or modify any promotion at any time to maintain compliance with South Carolina law and club policy.

10. Enforcement

Any violation of this policy may result in removal from the event, suspension of membership privileges, or other action deemed appropriate by management.

Section 3: Event and Class Policy

Effective Date: September 1, 2026
Applies To: Members, guests, instructors, staff, contractors, and event participants

The Bamboo Society offers classes, events, and social gatherings as part of its private club experience. Event and class availability, pricing, and participation rules are determined by the club and may change from time to time.

1. Class Offerings

The Bamboo Society may offer beginner instruction, intermediate instruction, strategy sessions, open play support, private lessons, themed events, and special programming. The club may limit class size, require advance registration, and set separate pricing for members and guests.

2. Event Registration

Some events require advance registration, prepayment, or approval by management. The club may cancel, reschedule, or change an event due to attendance, weather, staffing, instructor availability, or other operational needs.

3. Member and Guest Access

Events and classes may be open to members only, members and approved guests, or the general public if the club elects to do so for a specific event.

4. Pricing

The club may set different prices for members, guests, early registration, walk-ins, private groups, or specialty events. Event pricing may include instruction, materials, seating, food service, or other club-approved benefits.

5. Alcohol During Events

Alcohol may be served only in accordance with the club's Alcohol Service Policy and all applicable South Carolina laws. The club may restrict alcohol service during certain classes, youth-adjacent events, private lessons, or designated alcohol-free programming.

6. Food and Catering

The club may allow catered food, snacks, or other approved food service during events. Outside vendors must follow club instructions and any applicable licensing, health, or insurance requirements.

7. Instructor and Vendor Standards

Any instructor, host, caterer, or outside vendor working at The Bamboo Society must meet any club requirements for professionalism, insurance, scheduling, and conduct. The club may remove or replace a contractor whose conduct, performance, or presentation is inconsistent with club standards.

8. Participation and Conduct

All participants must follow the club's Code of Conduct. Disruptive, unsafe, intoxicated, or disrespectful behavior may result in removal from the event without refund, depending on the circumstances and the club's refund policy.

9. Materials and Equipment

Club supplies, tiles, tables, teaching materials, and other equipment must be used carefully and returned in good order. Damages caused by a participant may be charged to the participant or sponsoring member when appropriate.

10. Photography and Promotion

The club may photograph or record classes and events for marketing, educational, or internal purposes unless a person requests otherwise in writing or the law requires consent.

11. Cancellations and Refunds

Refunds, credits, and transfer rules are determined by the club's posted cancellation policy. Certain special events, private lessons, and catered functions may be nonrefundable once committed to staffing, food, or outside vendors.

12. Special Events

The club may host tournaments, holiday parties, fundraisers, pop-up classes, member appreciation nights, and private rentals. Each special event may have its own written rules, pricing, and access limitations.

13. Compliance

The Bamboo Society may modify or discontinue any class or event as needed to comply with law, permit conditions, safety concerns, or business needs. Continued participation after notice of a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
